I am thoroughly enjoying this book. I think that Barack has a natural knack of being able to detail his story so that you feel as if you are getting to know him in an intimate way. I think much of the book shows you how real he is.

I would recommend this book for either anyone that wants to get to know the president of the United States or anyone on a journey not knowing where they are going to end up; as I'm sure he never knew where his journey was going to end.

If you want to know something about the most powerful man in the world, this is a great place to start. In this book, Barack Obama describes how he sought to strengthen his own identity by trying to understand the hopes and aspirations of his Kenyan father, a man he barely knew. As a boy, he built up an image of his father based on his own brief memories and the stories told to him by his mother and grandparents. As a man, he had to confront a reality that was quite different.

It seems that Barack Obama is able to take something positive from every person he meets and every situation he is in. Instead of being confused or disorientated by his complex cultural and racial background he emerges a stronger and better man. It is almost impossible to believe that this book was written by someone in his early thirties as it is an astonishingly mature and wise work.
