Swine flu at second Cavan school

A second school in Co Cavan – Breffni College in Cavan town – is dealing with an outbreak of human swine flu.
The principal of the secondary school contacted the HSE yesterday after a number of pupils presented with flu-like symptoms.
Following discussions with medical experts, the principal decided that the school should remain open.
Arrangements are being made for a public health doctor to visit the school today to meet parents, inform them of the outbreak and answer questions they may have.
HSE Specialist in Public Health Medicine Dr Peter Finnegan said students and staff at the school would be monitored for symptoms of the flu.
He strongly advised parents with children who might be ill not to send them to school.
On Wednesday, it was confirmed that around 18 pupils at Laragh National School in Cavan were ill with flu-like symptoms. Some of these have been confirmed as cases of Influenza A (H1N1).
