John Mayer has revealed he is taking a break from dating as it has left him “a little freaked out”.

The 32-year-old singer – who has dated Jennifer Aniston,Jessica Simpson, actress Minka Kelly and Jennifer Love Hewittin the past – told Ellen DeGeneres on an episode of her talk show set to air in the US on Tuesday: “I’m a little freaked out about dating, so, I’m just going to let time pass and just do my thing.”

John claimed he had a “funny track record” with famous girlfriends, which is part of the reason he is taking time out from the dating game.


He said: “For some reason whoever I date has been famous for a while. I can’t sit here and be like, ‘Oh, please let me live my life in private with this famous person who’s been around for 15 years,’.

“The last thing you want to see me doing is bashing my head going, ‘I’m shocked, that I’m being followed right now.’ … I’m just going to hunker down. 2010 is a peaceful year for me no matter what I do.”

The singer appears on the chat show wearing a knitted reindeer jumper.

He wrote on Twitter: “Tune in, America, and see how I dress myself for the holidays!”
