Halloween
Top ten horror films to watch this Halloween
Oct 25th
It’s the month of ghosts, ghouls and all other scary things that go bump in the dark. And what better way to celebrate Halloween than to lock the doors, turn off the lights, stock up on snacks and sit down with friends and some of the scariest movies ever made?
10. Omen (1976)
Inside a little boy named Damien lives the Antichrist, enough said.
If you are one of the people that thinks a movie cannot scar you for life, that’s because you haven’t seen this one…

This amazing movie is a timeless classic, who would’ve thought William Peter Blaty’s book could’ve been translated into this beatiful horror.
Anyone, no matter the age or the day they were born will jump a few times and hide under the sheets after this one.
Great special effects and thrilling suspense, even in the first version. The enhanced version makes the quality even better. Thumbs up for Director William Friedkin.

An American family has a house in the outskirts of town, weird things happen in the house and suddenly their daughter dissapears. One of the best, if not the best ghost story ever written.
Even a team of experts is called in to see what is going on, but they didn’t expect to be drawn into this tragedy.
If you don’t want to sleep for a week this movie is a must.

7. The Haunting (1963)
Forget the date of the movie. Director Robert Wise does a fantastic job. Eventhough the special effects could be better, this piece of art will have your heart bouncing the entire way.
This one exceeds by far the stupid 1999 remake (which was pathetic really). In the movie there was a skeptical guy named “Luke”, he didn’t believe in all the paranormal activity deal, he was proven wrong in a way he would never expect and after you are done with the movie you won’t be sure what to believe in neither.

6. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974)
A group of teenagers stop in the wrong place. A country family lives there, but there is something wrong with them, something the teenagers would have never thought to be possible reveals.
Think twice before you hit the road with your friends and by all means don’t stop in the middle of nowhere, you will see why in this movie.
Not to be confused with the recent Angelina Jolie film of the same name. This is arguably the greatest haunted house movie ever made, this atmospheric film sees George C. Scott renting an eerie looking Victorian house following the tragic death of his wife and daughter in a car accident. Features the best séance scene put to film.

4. A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984)
It may have spawned several sequels but the original is by far the best. Wes Craven’s inventive masterpiece had the ingenious gimmick of a villain who killed you when you slept – leaving a generation of teenagers too scared to go to bed. And the ‘One, Two, Freddie’s coming for you…’ song still has the power to give you goosebumps.
Stephen King may have hated Stanley Kubrick’s film adaptation of his novel, but it’s widely recognised as one of the scariest horror films of all time. And little wonder – whether it’s Jack Nicholson’s ‘Here’s Johnny’ moment, the chase scene in the maze, or the first shot of the young twins – this is still an incredibly chilling movie.

2. The Vanishing (1988) – AKA Spoorloos
This one was chosen by our team of 1,000 movie fanatics because it has the best horror and climax scene of all times (When Rex Hoffman figures out how he lost his girlfriend).
If you want to watch this one, don’t do it by yourself and DO NOT tell your friends to do it neither. A company of at least 3 people is adviced. Ironically, the remake is probably THE worst horror movie of all times.
An obvious choice maybe, but Halloween still has the power to terrify. The spine tingling theme tune, John Carpenter’s voyeuristic camera spying around the corners and the jump out of your seat moment with Michael Myers appearing from the shadows means it’s the most perfect horror movie ever made.
Do you agree with our top ten count down of horror films? What will you be watching this Halloween?
