FRANCE’S troubled World Cup campaign descended into all-out anarchy yesterday with the players refusing to train, a top official resigning, the position of manager Raymond Domenech completely undermined, and a war of words developing between the squad and their own association.

The fall-out from Domenech’s half- time row with Nicolas Anelka in Thursday’s loss to Mexico has finally brought down the house of cards which has barely remained intact through his turbulent reign as manager.

Death toll is set to rise as 20 swept away in French flood

At least 20 people were killed in flash floods that hit the back hills of the French Riviera and turned streets into rivers of surging, muddy water.

There was confusion yesterday about how many people were missing in the flooding that washed over picturesque towns and left them standing in meters of brown water, a press officer at the local Var region prefecture said. But probably at least 12 people were unaccounted for, the official said.

Rumours that French President Nicolas Sarkozy and his wife Carla Bruni-Sarkozy are both having affairs are gaining momentum in France.

The suggestion that the couple were both committing adultery first emerged onTwitter, the microblogging website. It was followed by a report in the Sunday newspaper le Journal du Dimanche.

Bride leaves ceremony a widow as she weds her dead fiance

THE bride wore white but, as the mayor sadly pointed out, she was a widow before she left the town hall. By special permission of the French President, Magali Jaskiewicz, a 26-year-old-mother of two from eastern France, has married her dead fiance.

Jonathan George (25), father of her two small daughters, was killed in a road accident almost a year ago, two days after the couple informed the town hall that they planned to become man and wife.

Last weekend, in the village of Dommary-Baroncourt in Lorraine, Magali married Jonathan and became his official widow. During the ceremony, a large portrait of Jonathan was placed beside her on a wooden stand.

RTE struggle to agree rights deal for Paris showdown

Irish fans are still facing the possibility of a television blackout with less than a week until the decisive World Cup meeting with France inParis.

RTE remain locked in discussions with theFrench Football Federation (FFF) and their TV partners TF1 to broadcast Wednesday’s away leg in a row arising from the manner in which the rights for Saturday’s initial meeting at Croke Park were sold by the FAI.
