PASSENGERS on an American Airlines flight bound for Jamaica had a miracle escape when their plane overshot the runway in driving rain and broke apart.

The Boeing 737 was carrying more than 150 passengers and crew when it overshot the runway while landing in torrential rain in Jamaica late on Tuesday, cracking open its fuselage and halting just short of the Caribbean sea, authorities and eyewitnesses said.
